Fashionable Activities: Roommate Edition

By Amanda Cohen on June 13, 2017

Let me throw out a scenario to you all. You and your roommate are looking to unwind from a hectic week of work, school, exams, etc. However, you want to do something worthwhile that sparks your interests. For argument’s sake, let’s say you and your roommate are fashionistas and you want to do something within that realm. So, what should you do?

A very popular trend with college students is sitting in bed, watching Netflix, and online shopping side-by-side, but I am here to tell you that it is time to expand your horizons! If you want to use your free time to combine relaxation, fun, and fashion, read on and I will tell you the various activities that you and your roommate can do to embrace the fashionista lifestyle!

Spa day

On a college budget, it is not realistic to have a legit spa day, but you can make a spa day that works with your schedule and your budget. First, start off the day by getting a manicure and pedicure. Sit back in that massage chair, relax, and chat with your friend while they massage and beautify your feet and hands.

Next, go to the mall and get massages from those little kiosks. Nothing feels better than someone massaging all your aches and pains away. Most of these places offer great deals, therefore you can get a little ~boujee~ without breaking that bank.

After this, go back home and get in your comfiest lounge wear and put on a face mask. Cut some cucumbers, put them over your eyes or put them in your water for the full spa experience. Once you take off the face mask, you and your roommate can do each other’s hair; blow-dry it, straighten it, curl it, put it in an updo, the world is your oyster.

Finally, do your makeup, get in your cutest clothes, and go out for a fun night on the town. You may wake up exhausted, but after an entire day of pampering you will feel refreshed enough to dance all night with your friends.

Shopping spree

Depending on your budget, you and your friend can either make this a legit shopping spree or a window shopping spree; either way you guys will have a blast! Go into every single store you see, even if that store is not a place in which you normally shop. Try on as many clothes as possible, perform a fashion show for your roommate, ask the person helping you at the store to style you.

After you do this, go to Sephora and ask the makeup artists to suggest some good makeup, and then have them do your makeup. Register for a Sephora rewards card so that you can get all of the deals on makeup that anyone would ever want/need! After that grab a yummy lunch, go home, and style each other for your upcoming night — whether that night is a nice dinner, going to a bar, or chilling at home, just help each other pick out outfits!

If you are staying in, watch the show “Sex and the City” and embrace your inner Carrie Bradshaw! Just a quick tip, if you do decide to watch “Sex and the City,” start by watching all of the television seasons and then move onto the movies; the storyline will make more sense and the show is so good that you will want to watch it!

Wine and shop

I know I said this was not ideal in the beginning of my article, but sometimes all you need to do to have a good time is to have good company (your roommate), comfy clothes, and a bottle of wine every now and then. Watch a movie or television show, get a couple of bottles of wine, and online shop! Sticking to the fashion theme, here are some things that you can watch while shopping, chatting, and drinking:

•“The Devil Wears Prada”

•“Sex and the City”

•“Confessions of a Shopaholic”

•“America’s Next Top Model”

•“Zoolander”

•“Clueless”

•“Coco Before Chanel”

•“Head Over Heels”

•“The September Issue”

•“The City”

•“Gossip Girl”

•“The Hills”

•“Friends”

These movies and television shows are perfect for a cozy night in; they may even inspire some of the purchases that you make while you shop (honestly, this night can be a dangerous combination for your wallet, so just be mindful)!

To my readers, I hope that these three scenarios have helped you decide what to do with your roommate during your down time. Whether you go out for a night on the town, or stay home and be cozy, you truly cannot go wrong. Fashion and fun go hand-in-hand, you just have to be creative! Pamper yourself and do something fun because life is too damn short to not embrace what you love the most. Bond with your roommate — fashion truly brings people together.
